Description

Pepperberries are a dark blue to black in colour and have an intensely strong pepper bite that is accompanied by a mineral-like aftertaste that lingers and builds in heat for about 5 minutes after consumption. Native to Tasmania, these berries contain 3x more antioxidants than blueberries and have properties that can reduce inflammation.

Pouch size: 20g

Cooking

Use these berries to add a wild, natural and spicy taste to native foods such as emu burgers, flavoured bread, pasta, pates, mustards and cheeses. They also can be used as a novel garnish or a spicy ingredient in soups and stews. Additionally, they contain a strong red dye which adds vibrant colour to pale sauces and cheeses. Alternatively, they are a great replacement for regular peppercorns.

Pro tip: reduce spiciness and increase fruitiness by adding them early in the cooking process.

Origin

Mountain pepper leaf and mountain pepperberry (also known as Tasmannia lanceolata or Tasmanian Pepperberry) grow naturally in the forest and the cool climate of southern New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania.

Pepper berry

Such little balls of amazingness! I use them in cooking but the best is as a garnish with dried apple in my Gin & Tonics. They are so versatile but for a small berry they are packed with so much taste.
Try them for yourself…… amazing native loveliness!

Native Punch for your Barbeque Steaks

I milled some Pepperberries onto a few well deserving Porterhouse steaks on a flame-grilled barbeque and Voila! a great taste sensation. Why is that? Well when you cook your steaks over a fire this amplifies the flavour and the punch of the Pepperberries. Try it.
