Description

Pepperberries are a dark blue to black in colour and have an intensely strong pepper bite that is accompanied by a mineral-like aftertaste that lingers and builds in heat for about 5 minutes after consumption. Native to Tasmania, these berries contain 3x more antioxidants than blueberries and have properties that can reduce inflammation.

Pouch size: 20g

Cooking

Use these berries to add a wild, natural and spicy taste to native foods such as emu burgers, flavoured bread, pasta, pates, mustards and cheeses. They also can be used as a novel garnish or a spicy ingredient in soups and stews. Additionally, they contain a strong red dye which adds vibrant colour to pale sauces and cheeses. Alternatively, they are a great replacement for regular peppercorns.

Pro tip: reduce spiciness and increase fruitiness by adding them early in the cooking process.

Origin

Mountain pepper leaf and mountain pepperberry (also known as Tasmannia lanceolata or Tasmanian Pepperberry) grow naturally in the forest and the cool climate of southern New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania.

I've used peppercorns in cooking for many years, but the Pepperberry gives stews, curries, etc that extra lift. You could call it a "Warm Glow". I'll certainly be using more.

I thought the pepperberrys were going to be more peppery than they are but I was amazed how there was a fruity flavour to them. Very nice.
I used them in the sausage roll recipe and they are very nice. My Grandkids reckon they are the best and ask for them every time now when they visit.

Best Santa gift ever!

I am yet to try the product but can't wait for Santa to give us this best gift ever. I have been printing out the recipes from the forum (and bought the book) so will have lots of tasty recipes to try over the school holidays. Lots of great ideas to try from the reviews also (will be keeping the G&T tip for myself though).

So tasty

Pepperberry spice adds such flavour to the meals. Particular yummy on potatoes and avocado. I placed them in a grinder and use daily. Thoroughly recommend.

Such little balls of amazingness! I use them in cooking but the best is as a garnish with dried apple in my Gin & Tonics. They are so versatile but for a small berry they are packed with so much taste.
Try them for yourself…… amazing native loveliness!
