How The Gut Works and How It Affects The Body
How The Gut Works & How It Affects the Body It's never been more important to have a healthy gut. It can affect everything fromyour immune system, to breathing, circulation, and even mental health! How it works is really complicated however. So, to make things easy we set our naturopath the challenge of simplifying it as much as possible. Want to know how your gut works? Here is EVERYTHING you need to understand how it works, and how it affects your body. How does the gut work? 1. It Digests Your Food. Once food enters your mouth, it starts the process of digestion through your saliva, stomach acid, bile, and digestive enzymes. This breaks the food down to free thenutrients that your body uses to function. 2. It Absorbs Nutrients into Your Body. Your gut is your body’s nutritional gatekeeper that selects what to absorb from theoutside world. It selectively chooses to absorb nutrients from your food and rejects the toxins, old hormones, and bad things your body doesn’t want. 3. It Houses Your Gut Microbiome. The gut microbiome is made up of bacteria and plays a fundamental role in youroverall gut health. It not only influences how your gut feels, how well it gets rid ofwaste and absorbs specific nutrients, it also detoxifies your body from hormones and toxins, supports a healthy immune system, influences your mood, and encourages healthy weight maintenance (to name a few). 4. It Dumps the Toxic Waste That Your Body Doesn’t Need. All the old hormones, waste, toxins, and other things your body doesn’t requireanymore, need a safe way out of your body. The gut plays a critical role in removingall the toxic waste effectively, and safely. How Does Your Gut Affect Your Body? The gut impacts every single cell in your body as it absorbs the nutrients required to function properly. These nutrients are fundamental building blocks needed to create new blood cells, energy, and hormones, and keep your brain and heart functioning properly. It also keeps your entire body in balance by selecting what to reabsorb to keep your health optimal and eliminate toxic waste. Your gut reabsorbs hormones, nutrients, certain molecules, and even water to keep your body balanced, organs and bones healthy, and functioning properly. Lastly, your gut is important for strong immunity. It houses 80% of your immunesystem, so it plays a big role in determining whether you’ll get sick and the level ofinflammation in your body. Your gut microbiome has just as big an impact as itinfluences your neurotransmitters as well as your mood, inflammation, liver, andhealthy heart. Check out our two gut health teas, Native Detox Tea and Metabolism Tea. Why Australian Christmas Is So Special
Snow angels, fireplaces, chestnuts over an open fire and a roasted family dinner are the traditions of a typical Christmas. In Australia, we do it a little bit differently. We celebrate at the beach, light up the BBQ and share a drink with our fellow loved ones. Christmas is a special time for Australians where we get to catch up with our families, reconnect with friends, and give presents. Here Are Five Reasons Why Australian Christmas is the Best! 1. Christmas Comes Early. Once October comes, the cities start preparing their glistening Christmas lights, our favourite department stores start selling their Christmas gifts and put up their decorations, and the local grocery store starts selling fruit pies and Christmas cake in anticipation for the holiday season. Heck, you can even find Roogenic Gift Boxes in Myer stores this year from October! 2. The Weather An icy cold Christmas might be nice in theory, but having to shovel snow off the driveway and wear 10 layers of clothing can get a little exhausting. Ask any Australian and we’d happily trade that in for a bright blue sky, warm weather and a traditional family BBQ. 3. It's a Sandy Affair There’s no better way to cool off than to slip on some thongs, slap on some sunscreen and walk down to the local beach. An Australian summer means spending the day on our stunning, massive coastline with grilled prawns on the BBQ, Santas surfing the waves and maybe even a cheeky Roogenic iced tea popsicle. 4. Festive Lunch While the rest of the world celebrates around a family roast dinner, in Australia we do it a little bit differently. You will find the usual culprits around the lunch table, cold meats, cheeses, and maybe even a roast, but the special addition of prawns, grilled vegetables and meats really set it apart. For Christmas lunch ideas, check out our range of holiday recipes to impress the family with a Native Strawberry Pavlova, Wattleseed Eggnog, Roast Christmas Chicken with Australian Spices, Macadamia and Lemon Myrtle Biscotti and Frozen Native Strawberry Daiquiris. Click here to view our Christmas recipes. 5. Boxing Day In Australia, the day after Christmas is a public holiday that’s reserved for three things: recovering from a food coma, shopping and cricket. Boxing Day sales are an iconic part of the festive holiday season. Stores will sell their products and Christmas gift sets at half price and Aussies love a good deal. It wouldn’t be Boxing Day without the Cricket Test Match where friends and family will spend the day in the living room with a cold beer and chips.

Meet The Artists Behind Our New Mugs
This year, we have proudly collaborated with three emerging Indigenous artists to create our new range of Tea and Mug Gift Sets now exclusively available in Myer stores and selected retailers. Here is their story and inspiration behind each art piece! Amanda Barratt (@becauseofmyfour) Amanda Hinkelmann is a proud Wiradjuri woman, born in Wagga Wagga. As an Aboriginal woman living in modern Australia, her textural work focuses on merging traditional Aboriginal techniques and symbolism with a contemporary colour palette and style. Carrying a deep connection to the place she calls home, her works tell a unique story about her life experiences and culture. This painting, Deep, explores the layers of Country in the way that the term is understood within Aboriginal cultures. This artwork is representative of the layers of Country in its biggest sense — it represents the connection within you to the land in which you care for. It speaks to the feeling that is deep within. Zowie Baumgart (@zowie.aboriginalart) Zowie is a proud Kombumerri and Butchulla woman born in Canberra and raised in south Queensland. As an interdisciplinary traditional artist, her body of work speaks to her life experiences, aiming to uplift and provoke optimism in those who come across it. With each brushstroke, this painting has been created in reflection of life experiences with the intention of sparking joy and inspiration. Kamara Morgan (@kamaramorganart) Kamara Morgan is a proud Yorta-Yorta, Gunai-Kurnai and Dja Dja Wurrung woman from Yorta-Yorta Country. She is a contemporary Aboriginal artist and mother of three. Her work tells the story of a life with deep familial and cultural roots, drawing inspiration from the natural landscapes and waterways of her grandmother’s country, childhood bush excursions with her father and painting sessions with her uncles. This painting, Storytelling on Woka, reflects on the experience of people coming together on Woka Country and gathering around the campsites to storytell.

Eco-Friendly Christmas Guide
Every Christmas, Australia produces 30% more waste than at any other time of year. Christmas presents are wrapped in over 50,000 trees worth of wrapping paper and an astonishing 125,000 tonnes of plastic-packaging waste is produced each festive season. Being in the Christmas spirit does not have to mean being wasteful. A greener Christmas is possible if we each make choices that not only spread the festive cheer but do good for the planet, too. Here are 3 ways you can make more eco-friendly choices this year: 1. Choose eco-friendly materials for decorations and gift wrapping When it comes to decorating your home for Christmas Day or wrapping up Christmas presents for loved ones, choosing eco-friendly materials can reduce waste and add a beautiful, personal touch. As a rule of thumb, avoid the use of the plastic wherever possible and choose natural materials — think recycled paper, hessian string, natural textiles, wood or even local botanicals to spread the Christmas cheer. Making the switch from single-use materials to long-lasting, reusable ones can even mean taking a look at what you already have. Search your home for any scraps of material or unique paper or string that can be repurposed into beautiful Christmas decorations and gift wrapping materials. And if you’re out shopping for decorations, make sure that from the packaging to the product itself, the item includes as little plastic as possible. 2. Choose Eco-Friendly Gifts Conscious gifting has become a buzzword over recent years, but it is an essential part of ensuring a more eco-friendly Christmas across Australia. When it comes to gifting, think natural, sustainable and Australian-made. Considering the materials used to make the product and the origin of the product can help you make more eco-friendly choices with ease. When you choose Australian-made, you’re not only choosing to support local businesses, but you’re also naturally putting your dollars toward lower greenhouse emissions. 3. Plan Ahead It turns out that being eco-friendly might help you become more prepared for every celebration, too! When it comes to a more sustainable approach, the ultimate goal is to extend the life cycle of all materials and products that are used. Plan ahead by designating a box or a drawer where you’ll stow reusable ribbons, paper, string and any other decorations. It’s never too late to start a good habit so start this Christmas and continue to add to it throughout the year. By next Christmas, you will have built an eclectic collection of decorations and gift wrapping materials to reduce your waste even further. Shop our Australian-made gift range
