VOICE. TREATY. TRUTH. - Roogenic

VOICE. TREATY. TRUTH.

Let’s work together for a shared future! At Roogenic we know how important CONNECTION TO COMMUNI-TEA is, that is why for NAIDOC week we were extremely proud to be a part of the launch of the new Indigenous Health Centre in Armadale, sponsor the Mirrabooka Drug Aware NAIDOC Day, the Network Aviation NAIDOC Morning Tea and the Indigenous Social Impact Summit. These events included creating a Native Australian Bush Food Grazing Table, donating all profits made from our ice teas to NAIDOC week causes and even supplying elders at the Social Impact Summit with a van full of Roogenic gift packs. Honestly, though, none of our community work would be possible without all your support and love for our unique Native Australian Bush Teas and Bush Products. We are so proud so many people are choosing to give their loved ones a unique Australian gift for celebrations and holidays.

City of Armadale’s Biggest Morning Tea - Roogenic

City of Armadale’s Biggest Morning Tea

Here at Roogenic, we are a proudly Australian business and love to support communities around the country. This week we had the honour of supporting the City of Armadale’s Biggest Morning Tea event.  The high tea brunch was a free event held in Armadale’s community hall, which involved everyone from the local council bringing a dish to share with the community. The centre also ran an assistance program for people struggling in the Armadale community, which involved clothing being supplied before Winter, sanitary products and food supplies.  We were happy to contribute our famous Native Australian Iced Teas, Hot Teas and Roogenic gift packs that were raffled off, with all the profits going to the Cancer Council.

SHAC FREMANTLE exhibition - Roogenic

SHAC FREMANTLE exhibition

When we were invited to be a part of fabulous exhibition opening for "Ngaala Kwobidak Yorgas Koort Waangkiny Kaartijin, Moort, Boodjar" (Our Beautiful Women Heart Talking, Knowledge, Family & Country) at SHAC, we were both honoured to be a part of the event and excited to see some of the incredible artwork that would be displayed by some of Western Australia’s finest artists.  … and WOW, the evening did live up to our high expectations. With captivating artistry from Marcelle Riley, Gerri Hayden and Seantelle Walsh, the gallery showcased incredible Indigenous artwork created by female leaders within the Western Australian Indigenous art community in recognition of NAIDOC week’s theme in 2018, ‘Because of Her We Can’.  Curated by Marcelle Riley, a finalist in the 2017 National Self Portrait Prize, and with live music from Indigenous performer, Lilly Gogos, there was a real sense of community and tradition throughout the night.  We were lucky enough to provide the event with our signature hot teas to make sure that elders, artists and guests all had a warm cuppa of Native Australian tea to sip on while they looked at some of the incredible artwork.  To make sure you are aware of the next gallery launch at Shac Fremantle WA, please request to join the SHAC Facebook group here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/SHACfreo/

NATIONAL SORRY DAY NETBALL TOURNAMENT - Roogenic

NATIONAL SORRY DAY NETBALL TOURNAMENT

Roogenic is all about supporting health, happiness and the traditional wisdom of Indigenous Australians. So, when we were asked to sponsor the ‘National Sorry Day Netball Tournament’, we saw it as a great privilege to acknowledge and pay our respects to the stolen generation.  The event took place on the 25th of May and included face painting and activities for the kids. We proudly supplied our famous Roogenic Iced Teas to everyone attending the event in exchange for a gold coin donation, with all proceeds going towards future Indigenous programs.  At Roogenic we want to say a BIG thank you to Danielle Cameron (pictured below) for organising the event. It was a huge success for the second year in a row. Your passion for Indigenous culture and health is something that is constantly inspiring us at Roogenic  All photos pictured were by Shauna Narrier.

A Bush Food Journey with Bindi Bindi Dreaming - Roogenic

A Bush Food Journey with Bindi Bindi Dreaming

You probably already know that here at Roogenic we are passionate about the Australian Bush Food movement and the traditional wisdom of Indigenous Australians, but we got to share a glimpse of this with some lucky Roogenic customers that won a place on an exciting Bush Food Tour.  Lead by Aboriginal foodie Marissa Verma of Bindi Bindi Dreaming we were swept along on an immersive journey as she shared her extensive knowledge of native bush foods and medicines found in our very own backyard. The tour took place in WA’s Piney Lakes Reserve where the Whadjuk Noongar people are the traditional owners. The reserve is a significant site for Aboriginal women, who performed ceremonies, discussed women's business and took young boys through their level one initiation. Their knowledge of plants, to be used for food and medicine, was shared with their children and sustained by following the Aboriginal Six Seasons. Following these seasonal changes enabled the conservation and protection of natural resources and ensured sustainability of the environment for future generations. The Bush Food Tour included teachings of the Noongar Six Season Cycle which is not dependent on calendar dates, but rather the changing conditions. The seasons are extremely important to Noongar people as it is a guide to what nature is doing at every stage of the year. It brings an understanding of respect for the land, in relation to plant and animal fertility cycles, and land and animal preservation. The six seasons also have relevance to the Modern world of planning and business. Marissa also explained the movements of some Indigenous communities located in Western Australia and how they would move from one area to the next with the changing seasons. During the tour everyone was invited to be painted with ochre which is an important part of ceremony and tradition. The tour finished with a Bush Food morning tea with delicious cakes and damper supplied by Marissa Verma, and of course, some Roogenic Iced Tea to keep everyone refreshed and energetic. And a big thank you to the wonderful Marissa! You are an incredible Indigenous ambassador and teacher and we feel so privileged to get to work with you!
